The Humaita Regional Center was created in 2011 from a visit of the FAPEAM management scholars, Dayane Mayely Silva de Oliveira, Maria Aparecida de Freitas and Ricardo Romero, along with the coordinator of PPBio, William Magnusson . The indication of this Amazon city as a possible regional center was a suggestion of Professor Fabrizio Berton Zanchi (UFAM) that conducts studies in the region by the Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia (LBA). The coordinator of the regional center will be Professor Marcelo Rodrigues dos Anjos (UFAM).
Altogether 9 institutions are partners of NR: Federal University of Amazonas (Amazonas University), International Institute of Amazonian Education (IIEB), Amazon Pact Institute (IPA), the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), National Institute Colonization and Agrarian Reform (INCRA), Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), the National Indian Foundation (FUNAI), Municipal Secretary of Environment and Tourism (SEMATUR), Agricultural Development Institute of the State of Amazonas (IDAM) .
The first modules of the region was installed near the towers of LBA already installed a field area and another in a forest area. These areas are preserved by the army, near the city and can be used as a training center and training for local people. The region where the modules are installed is approximately 30 km from Humaita.
