The detailed protocol for ground LiDAR surveys in RAPELD plots covers all aspects necessary for the accurate and efficient collection and storage of LiDAR data. It includes a complete list of necessary equipment, such as the Riegl LD90-3100VHS-FLP sensor, setup instructions, and step-by-step procedures for data collection. In addition, it provides practical tips for field work, such as how to deal with weather conditions and maintain the equipment, ensuring correct and effective LiDAR data acquisition.
The objective of this text is to present the methodology developed by the Laboratory of Limnic and Terrestrial Malacology of UERJ, based on our experience in a RAPELD grid installed on Ilha Grande, Rio de Janeiro, aiming at the standardization of terrestrial mollusc collections. We proposed the use of 10 collection points in each 250m plot. At each point, direct collection is carried out for 15 minutes by four collectors searching for shells and live animals in favorable microhabitats such as fallen logs and near rocks; the litter contained in 25x75 cm quadrats is also collected. At each collection point, abiotic data are obtained such as depth and humidity of the litter, soil temperature and pH, ambient temperature and humidity, light and canopy closure.

RAPELD in marine ecosystems.
The article discusses the use of the RAPELD environmental monitoring system for monitoring the Brazilian marine environment. It outlines the advantages of using a spatially standardized system, the emphasis on sampling associated with contour lines, the need for integrated sampling, and the challenges of financing such a system. It also addresses the similarities between marine and terrestrial surveys, and the need for optimized sampling frequencies for different organisms and variables.
