State Forest Complex (FLOES) of the Rio Gregório - Workshop : RAPELD.

From September 15 to 24, the State Forest Complex (FLOES) of the Rio Gregório - CFERG - hosted the workshop: "RAPELD System for inventory and monitoring of biodiversity and ecosystem processes."

The workshop was promoted by the Acre Regional Nucleus of the Biodiversity Research Program, PPBio, through the project: "Inventory and monitoring of biodiversity, integrated analysis of ecosystems, and multicultural scientific dialogues in Acre," and received support from SEMA.

The event took place in the FLOES of Rio Liberdade and in the FLOES of Rio Gregório, with 25 participants including faculty and students from UFAC and IFAC in Cruzeiro do Sul, as well as residents of CFERG.

In both areas, two permanent plots and two piezometers were installed for monitoring the variation in groundwater depth. Data on forest cover, soil respiration, and soil samples for heavy metal analysis were collected.

To monitor biodiversity, the team conducted inventories of woody plants (trees, palms, and lianas), ferns, macrofungi, fish, and benthic macroinvertebrates.

The project operates in the three state forests of the complex (Liberdade, Mógno, and Gregório) and with the participation of local agro-extractive communities, we will establish five permanent plots with piezometers in each.

In addition to expanding the monitored areas in the state, the initiative also provided training in the application of standardized sampling protocols and enabled the inclusion of CFERG in a national network with the collaboration of researchers and young scientists from the Amazon and Brazil.

Concurrently with the workshop, the team observed and photographed plants, animals, and fungi occurring in CFERG, as part of the Great Bioblitz of the Southern Hemisphere, an event that aims to connect countries in this part of the planet through iNaturalist, an application that promotes citizen science.
