Salford University Field Ecology Course - 2019

A further edition of the Salford Tropical Field Course was held between 14 and 26 January 2019. The course, led by Professor Jean Philippe Boubli, is a partnership between the University of Salford, located in Manchester, England, the Vitoria Amazon Foundation (FVA) and the Center for Integrated Studies on Amazonian Biodiversity (CENBAM). Undergraduate students of the British university from three different courses (Wildlife Conservation with Zoo Biology, Wildlife and Practical Conservation and Zoology), counting this year with the presence of 21 students.

Tropical Ecology Course Salford University, CENBAM and PPBio

The training in the collection and monitoring of biodiversity using the RAPELD method was carried out in the Adolpho Ducke Forest Reserve from January 8 to 14, 2018. The course was taught by Dr. Jean Boulbli of the University of Salford in partnership with the CENBAM and PPBio team, aiming to: strengthen the exchange between researchers, generate data and products on biodiversity.

Installation Workshop of a PPBio research module and RAPELD permanent parcels in RDS Rio Negro, in Novo Airão, Amazonas

Between August 2017 and January 2018, in the Rio Negro Sustainable Development Reserve (RDS), at Km 26 of AM-352, in the city of Novo Airão (Ramal Uga Uga), Amazonas, the permanent RAPELD parcels, aiming to implant a RAPELD research module to know the biodiversity of the RDS Rio Negro south side and to promote the inclusion of communities in the knowledge of this biodiversity, in order to develop local community ecotourism.

Pteronotus alitonus

Pteronotus alitonus is a medium-sized bat in the Mormoopidae family, measuring 5.8 to 6.4 cm and weighing between 20 and 26 g. It is easily confused with P. rubiginosus, for which characteristics of the skull and dentition should be seen in detail (Pavan et al., 2018). The coat is dense and short (6 mm), ranging from light brown and dark brown to reddish.
