Morcegoteca: A virtual library of bats' ultrasounds.

Bats emit an ultra sound to locate their environment, to communicate and even to feed. This sound, in some groups of bats, is so developed and specific that it can be used to identify species. In this library you will learn more about the ecology of various species of bats focusing on their ultrasonic calls.

For each species, we present the so-called search-phase call, the intensity spectrum, the oscillogram, and a video of the search call. For some species the feeding buzz is also available.

 

The library content is free and you can download everything to your computer, including sounds, metadata, videos, pictures, and manuals.

As the Morcegoteca was created to be a dynamic repository, we are encouraging researchers to contribute the ultrasounds of species they have recorded. Thus, Morcegoteca can become an important tool for the integration of bat bioacoustics data and a virtual reference library for research.
