Infrastruture Module 1- Fazenda Continental, Cláudia/MT

Continental Farm is located in the region known as “Dry Forests of Mato Grosso”, which covers part of the states of Mato Grosso (north) and Pará (south). Its total area corresponds to about 10% of the Amazon Biome and a transition zone, limited to the north and west by the humid forest, and to the east and south and by the cerrado. The vegetation consists of tree species and features of the Amazonian transition forest.
 
The PPBio Module was installed in the area of ​​continuous vegetation, being fragmented only by the presence of dirt roads, where some are disabled and others currently used to access the farm's headquarters, as well as for the transport of wood and agricultural products.
 
Access
 
Access to Fazenda Continental is via the federal highway BR-163 without direction in the municipality of Alta Floresta. There is an entrance on the right on this road that leads to the farm. Before reaching the module camp. about 400 m are traveled on the dirt road that cuts soy and corn crops.
 
Accommodation
 
There is no accommodation structure in this module for research.
 
Camp
 
Students and researchers use a construction made of wood and covered with a zinc plate for camping. There is also a watercourse about 80 m from the camp which is used for professionals and groups.
 
 
Plots
 
The module consists of two trails spaced 1 km apart, forming a rectangle of 5 km². A permanent plot of 250 m was installed at each kilometer of this system, resulting in 12 land parcels. There is a permanent watercourse on the trail that gives access to the module's parcels (parcel 7). Next to it there are 3 plots with an extension of 250 m considered as riparian.
 
Access infrastructures in the field
 
The module's parcels are about 750 to 1,250 m away from the camp and are accessed by a trail. The secondary trails that connect the two main trails are found between one parcel and another, basically in the middle of the route.
