New species of tree frog is described in the Purus-Madeira interfluvium region

A new species of frog of the genus Scinax has been described by researchers Micah Ferrão, Jiří Moravec, Rafael de Fraga, Alexandre Pinheiro de Almeida, Igor Luis Kaefer and Albertina Pimentel Lima in the region between the Purus and Madeira rivers, in the Brazilian Amazon.

The new species has a light brown back with spots and bright orange iris, which led researchers to call it Scinax onca. The Scinax genus is a complex group of tree species that could still reveal many new species. Available for download.
