Uatumã Biological Reserve
The Rebio Uatumã sampling site is a complete grid of the PELD type (25 km2). Data of this type are the most complete and the most useful for long term monitoring and geographical comparisons. These are probably adequate for the majority of analyses. Monitoring studies in the grids should use the methods described in the methodology sections of earlier studies of PPBio, or include a calibration phase within the project to guarantee that the data are comparable. (Read more about the data available on the PPBio Portal)
The Uatumã Rebio covers 942.786 ha and was created with the object of preserving the biological diversity of the lowland tropical lowland forest of the basin of the Uatumã/Jatapu rivers and the marshes and islands formed by the damming of the Uatumã river and to protect endemic, rare, vulnerable and threatened species, It is located between the municipios of Presidente Figueiredo, São Sebastião do Uatumã and Urucará.
In 2005, the research sub-network “Biomass, Structure and Composition in the Uatumã Biological Reserve, Central Amazonia” was approved (Edital MCT/CNPq/PPG7 no. 48/2005). The sub-network is formed by four research projects. One of these is the “Biomass, Structure and Composition of the Arboreal and Herbaceous Vegetation of the Uatumã Biological Reserve, Central Amazonia” which plans the installation of a 25 km2 grid of trails in 2006, following the methodology of RAPELD.
